Day 1 of the 2019 WGI Guard Championships has come and gone, and man did we see some amazing colorguards on the floors, today!
Scholastic and Independent A Classes took the floor at the UD Arena, Nutter Center, and Cintas Center for the first full day of WGI Championships.
According to the WGI Rulebook, Semi-Finalists are chosen using the following method:
“If there are multiple preliminary contest sites and different panels of judges are used, an equal amount from each contest site will be taken to make the total number of semi-finalists. If there are multiple preliminary contest sites and the same panel of judges adjudicates at both sites, the pre-determined number highest scores will advance to Finals regardless of contest site.”
As a result of the "equal number from each contest site" provision, advancement to Semi-Finals in A Class is not based entirely upon overall score, but based upon both score and the show site. This means that, although a group may have scored higher at Nutter Center, because they have to take an equal amount from UD Arena, a lower-scored guard from UD will advance.
So, without further ado, let's take a look at the results from Day 1:
Scholastic A:
In Scholastic A Class, 149 guards competed at the UD Arena and Nutter Center in twelve Rounds. Of those, 64 units have advanced to tomorrow's SA Semi-Finals. Let's take a look at how those rounds broke down, score-wise, and who will be moving on to the next round of competition:
