With the competitive season starting at the DCI Tour Premiere last week, all of the corps must release their secrets that have been under wraps over the past month and a half. Here's what you missed over the weekend during this busy time of drum corps!
The Cavaliers' snare drummer Sean Yi spoke with FloMarching Senior Editor Michael Gilley at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis about the corps' 2017 production, "Men Are From Mars." The Cavaliers have taken the early season by storm, maintaining a spot right behind the Bluecoats and Carolina Crown at the shows they've been scored at so far. The corps has already improved its score by 1.450 points since the first show on June 22, with its color guard and percussion holding down their captions incredibly well.
Blue Knights performed live on FloMarching for the first time this season at DCI West in Sacramento, California, on Sunday. Their show "i" is paired with interesting uniforms that feature a screen-printed iris on each member's right abdomen and rib cage. The corps performs certain visuals using its "eye" and props that are mirrors in order to draw the audience's attention to specific points on the field. Check out our DCI West recap to read more about the performances throughout the show, and take a look at some of the Blue Knights' photos below from their performance.
If you can't make it out to the shows, be on the lookout for our "In the Lot" videos the next day or even the same night as the shows. This is a great opportunity to hear the drumlines playing in uniform before they take the big green stage for the night and get scored! Check out In the Lot: The Cadets at the DCI Tour Premiere as they warm up for their show "The Faithful, The Fallen, The Forgiven."
The Bluecoats officially announced their uniforms within 20 minutes of the start of the DCI Tour Premiere. The corps also revealed its mainstage prop for its 2017 production, "Jagged Line." The main prop, from the image the Bluecoats shared when they announced their show, is a giant stage the corps maneuvers above and below its members, who fly from one side to the other during their energetic and excitingly jazzy show. The hornline has shown consistent improvement over the last few seasons, and so far, the Bluecoats' show leads the Eastern corps in overall score. It's going to be another exciting year for the corps' fans, and in the end, who isn't a Bluecoats fan? Check out the official announcement below!
