How Beethoven Met Disturbed

How Beethoven Met Disturbed

When Ludwig Van Beethoven composed the famed Piano Sonata No. 14, other wise known as Moonlight Sonata, he never imagined it would be paired with a singer like David Draiman, lead singer for the metal band Disturbed (warning explicit lyrics). Well, Mike Howard of Vandegrift (TX) did.

In 2015, over 200 years after Beethoven wrote Moonlight, Draiman was pitched the idea to cover Simon and Garfunkel's 1964 hit Sound of Silence. Taking the haunting darkness of Draiman's voice and beautiful lyrical melodies of Sound of Silence, Disturbed made one of the most disturbingly beautiful covers ever. (Shown below)

Now, the Vandegrift (TX) band has taken it one step further. The band's 2017 production is about Beethoven's life as a composer and how he eventually went completely deaf. So, Vandegrift decided to take Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and layer that under Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. It has turned into one of the most beautiful moments of the 2017 BOA season.
