Episode 3: UM Band with Miguel R.
Year: Sophomore
Major: Industrial and Operations Engineering
Section: Tenor Saxophone
Why I joined the UM Band: Throughout my whole life, I have always been starstruck by great bands. I was in every band I could join for as long as I can remember. When I went to college, not only did joining the UM band feel like the natural next step, but it would also be the greatest band I would ever have the privilege of playing in. The energy, the vibrancy, the fans, the community, The Victors - that's why I joined the Michigan Marching Band.
Favorite memory: My favorite memory so far has to be going to the Orange Bowl last year. People always told me that playing music would take me farther than I'd thought it could. Last year I realized how far it took me when I was playing frisbee on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with not a care in the world. I remember thinking to myself how grateful I was that people cared so much about seeing the band that they would pay for our entire trip to come play for them. That trip will have a fond place in my heart for the rest of my life.
