Week One
BOA South Texas Regional Championship | September 17
A pool of twelve competitors threw down in McAllen, Texas where we saw multiple Texas Marching Classic competitors take the field for the first time.
John B. Alexander High School, hailing from Laredo, TX, topped the competitive field earning a 74.375 on top of taking home all three caption awards in Music Performance, Visual Performance, and General Effect.
Louis D. Brandeis High School nabbed second place with a score of 73.400, leaving the margin behind John B. Alexander HS just shy of one full point.
Sandra Day O'Connor High School went home with fifth place, earning a score of 71.950, just above the middle of the pack of competitors at this particular competition.
Week Two
BOA Austin Regional Championship | September 24
Spectators saw eight of the twenty-one Texas Marching Classic competitors take the field, funnily enough, at Kelly Reeves Athletics Complex. And it was a very close competition between the top-two bands of the night: Vista Ridge High School and Cedar Ridge High School.
With just 0.55 points separating the two, Vandegrift came out on top earning a 83.725, while Cedar Ridge tallied a 83.175. Additionally, Vandegrift swept the caption awards, taking away honors in the Music Performance, Visual Performance, and General Effect captions. While Cedar Ridge is performing in exhibition at the Texas Marching Classic, the rest of the season between these two programs should be extremely exciting.
Cedar Park High School earned the bronze medal spot at the end of the evening, netting a 82.250 and keeping the competition between first, second, and third place ensembles extremely close.
Vista Ridge took home fourth with a 81.150, while Rouse High School just missed the 80s club and came in fifth with a 79.675. Just barely behind in sixth place, we saw Round Rock High School, ending Finals competition with a 79.250.
Hendrickson High School, the only ensemble out of the group who will be making the voyage to BOA Grand Nationals this year, earned 75.300 and put them in 9th place at the end of the night.
Last but not least, audiences saw Leander High School nab the last slot in Finals competition and closed out the night with a 74.100, earning them 12th place at the end of the night.
Weiss High School also made its way to the Austin Regional but missed the Finals cutoff after scoring a 70.500 along. Also missing the cutoff was Tom C. Clark High School which put up a 69.800.
Based on how tight the scores were at the BOA Austin Regional, it should be an exciting affair at the Texas Marching Classic.
