Movers & Shakers: Perc/Winds To Watch Leading Into WGI World Championships
Taking a closer look at a few ensembles that have the potential to ruffle some feathers at the 2022 WGI Perc/Winds World Championships on April 21-24th.
As the end of April draws closer, so does the end of the 2022 WGI season. Fans and performers alike have been treated to an awesome showing of Percussion and Winds shows over the last few months, and everyone is excited to see how the results shake out after the final groups leave the floor. As excitement builds, we wanted to highlight some ensembles to keep an eye on going into WGI World Championship Finals week:
Rhythmic Force Percussion (PIW)
While we've only seen the Austin-based group a handful of times throughout the season, the ensemble most recently put up an impressive score at the WGI Dallas Percussion Regional on March 19th, earning them an evening slot in the second round of PIW prelims competition on Thursday night. With an 87.70 being their most recent score leading into Dayton (TCGC Championships), we think they're worth keeping an eye on and seeing what kind of placement they can secure after Prelims.
Zionsville Community High School (PSO)
The Indiana ensemble has been having a heck of a season, most recently netting an impressive 91.900 at the WGI Dayton Perc/Winds regional that took place on March 26-27th. After being bumped up from the Scholastic A class to the Scholastic Open class, they've consistently raked in high scores and high praise from crowds, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of moves they make throughout the weekend.
Miamisburg High School (WSO)
The Scholastic Open group is one of the most packed in the Winds category this season. No stranger to tough competition, Miamisburg HS has been able to consistently finish amongst the top of the leaderboard at almost every competition they went to this season. At the WGI Dayton Perc/Winds regional, they managed to top the group by earning a 90.250 after the weekend's competition, already besting their finals score from the 2019 season. With fierce competition from groups like South Jones HS, Lake Hamilton HS, Father Ryan HS, and more, they'll need to have a stellar prelims run if they want to position themselves for a chance at medal contention.
