Blue Devils Announce "Ghostlight" For DCI 2019 Season

Thursday morning, May 16, a post hit the Blue Devils' Instagram account asking for 15,000 likes, promising that they would release their 2019 program if they did. This morning, after nearly a full day of keeping the drum corps community on their toes and not saying anything else on their accounts—and gaining 22,000 likes total—they announced "Ghostlight."

On their website, the corps described the show as:
"Some people maintain that the function of the lone stage light is to chase away mischievous spirits; others insist it illuminates the space for the spirits that are said to inhabit virtually every theatre, keeping them happy and contented. Without a doubt, the paranormal dance of the empty theatre is mysterious, magical and rich in folklore."
The lore of the ghost light is not only wrapped in superstition, but it also functions as a beacon—a light source when there is no other, so that the first person in a theater is able to turn on the rest of the lights. It will be interesting to see how the corps' design team adapts both angles of the ghost light onto the turf in 2019.
Blue Devils will be undoubtedly bringing their own spin on the music selections that they've decided for the show, including an original piece titled "Ghostlight" by Dave Glyde:
- "Cycle Song" by Imogen Heap
- "Rhythm Song" by Imogen Heap
- "A True Passion" by Lorne Balfe
- "Stroke of Genius" by Lorne Balfe
- "Symphony No. 3" by Aram Khachaturian
- "Ghostlight" by Dave Glyde
- "Circus" by Britney Spears
The corps heads into this season with 18 DCI World Championship titles and will be looking for yet another top finish. They also have not fallen below a silver medal since 2006.
