Here's what to look for at the 2018 BOA Indianapolis Super Regional.
It’s the middle of October and the fall marching season is in full swing. Now it’s time to up the game and start the Super Regional season. That’s right folks, the first BOA Super Regional is already here!
The 2018 BOA Indianapolis Super Regional heats up the Midwest on Friday and Saturday with a line-up that is as talented as we have seen all year.
We’ve got 12 of the 14 finalists from 2017 returning to Indy, the Class A champion from last year, 3 bands from South Dakota making long trips, 2 bands from Texas, and quite possibly a partridge in a pear tree.
FRIDAY
The evening block on Friday is going to be on fire. The contest gets started at 9:00 am EST, however, from 4:30 pm EST until 9 pm EST, you’re going to have 8 finalists from the 2017 Indy super regional perform. Four of those bands went on to make finals at Grand Nationals in 2017.
Defending Indianapolis Super Regional champion Carmel (IN) returns to BOA action on Friday night at 8:45 pm EST. We haven’t seen Carmel since week 1 (Sept. 22) at the Oxford Regional where they stunned the crowd with an 83.300. It will have been almost 4 weeks since Carmel took the field and undoubtedly they will have filled-out much more of their show.
Carmel managed to crack 90 at this Super Regional last year. Will they be able to do the same again this year?

Their cross-town neighbors from Avon (IN) will certainly be in the hunt as well. Avon has been a mystery this year so far. The Marching Black and Gold haven’t performed at a BOA event yet this year after performing in 5 events last fall, including a trip to San Antonio.

Remember Super Regional are two-day events, so wake-up early and get ready for another round of performances beginning at 7:45 am EST.
Rosemount (MN), Lakota East (OH), and Centerville (OH) all return to Indianapolis after making finals at this Super Regional in 2017.

This will be Rosemount’s only BOA performance this season. The massive program from Minnesota is a 13-time BOA Super Regional finalist including 4 class championships. They also have 11 Minnesota state marching championships on their resume. So, you do NOT want to miss them.
The Lakota East Marching Thunderhawks have earned a superior rating at the OMEA State Marching Band Finals for 21 consecutive years. They have earned numerous first place, best in class, and best of show awards as well as over 40 grand champion awards. They are a three-time Regional Finalist and a 2017 Indianapolis Super Regional Finalist.
The Centerville Jazz Band is celebrating their 35th year of Bands of America participation! Since 1984, the band has been named Bands of America Regional Champions 19-times and has been a Bands of America Grand National Finalist 19-times. The band was also named the 1992 Bands of America Grand National Champion.

Blue Springs returns to Indianapolis for the first time since they left Lucas Oil Stadium after making Grand Nationals finals in 2017. A consistent finalist at the St. Louis Super Regional, Blue Springs is making an early trip over to Indiana undoubtedly as a prep run for their return visit for the 2018 BOA Grand Nationals in November.
We haven’t seen Blue Springs yet this fall but you can rest assured they will have something special in store for this weekend.
"We feel the most prepared that we’ve ever been heading into this weekend, which usually is the St. Louis regional weekend," Lindsey Hansen Vento, Program Coordinator and Artistic Director at Blue Springs. "We absolutely love this program, and what it stands for, and how it makes us all feel and you can tell the students love it as well. We can’t wait to share it with everyone!"
