Tight Pack Of Finalists Head To Muncie For DCI Central Indiana
Last year's ninth through twelfth-place finishers will meet at Ball State University for the DCI Central Indiana show on Friday, June 29.
If you watched the DCI World Championships in 2017, you know how close the finalists near the bottom of the pack were by the end of the competition. The 13th- to 15th-place groups are always gunning for the last spots in finals, putting the 11th- and 12th-place finishers on edge every season. In the case of 2017, Crossmen and Madison Scouts were on the cusp with Mandarins hot on their tail.
Now, with Crossmen looking to make big moves up, that means Blue Stars, Scouts, and even Phantom Regiment have to be at the top of their game to stave off their competitive neighbors.
Here are some must-watch moments for DCI Central Indiana this Friday in Muncie, IN, as the corps make their way to the big regionals and eventually DCI World Championships in Indianapolis.
8:46 PM ET - Crossmen
Following Genesis' opening performance and Colts' run, Crossmen will get their chance at performing against some competition that was very near and dear to them in 2017. In particular, Blue Stars were just out of reach of Crossmen in 2017 during DCI World Championships. In prelims, the two corps were only separated by 0.125, a gap that opened up to about half a point in semis and then an entire point by finals night.
9:04 PM ET - Madison Scouts
Madison Scouts have yet to make their 2018 debut on FloMarching, but that changes this weekend. On Friday, the corps will debut their show "Heart & Soul," with the inclusion of their one female performer, Megan Hutera. Madison Scouts were in the back of the pack of finalists last season but ended up having a finals week surge that separated them from Mandarins, the last corps to not make finals.
9:40 PM ET - Blue Stars
We also have yet to see Blue Stars perform on our stream in 2018. The corps is performing its show "The Once And Future Carpenter," featuring the music of The Carpenters. It is filled with references to handiwork and carpentry, including the corps' newest uniforms. So far in 2018, Blue Stars have only performed in the DCI Tour Premiere and a classic show in Whitewater, WI. Between the two shows, they improved their score from a 62.000 to a 63.800.
