Season Recap: Percussion/Winds Coming To A Close In Dayton
As we head to the 2018 WGI Percussion/Winds World Championships, it's time to take a look at how we got here.
The 2018 WGI season for percussion and wind ensembles didn't begin in February at the first WGI Regional contests. It began last fall when ensembles were holding auditions and camps. It began when designers first put together the shows we will watch this week at the 2018 WGI Percussion/Winds World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. So let's take a look back at all the moments that have made 2018 so incredible.
Watch the 2018 WGI Percussion/Winds World Championships LIVE on April 19-22!

FIRE DRILL!
Remember when Burleson Centennial's drumline was just trying to get some reps in during class and well... someone pulled the fire alarm! Come on, man.
LEADING FROM WITHIN
Also from Burleson Centennial, its new Indoor Winds Ensemble is relying heavily on the students in the group to lead. Instructors are even asking their students to conduct portions of rehearsals. However, none of the individual members have any official titles like "section leader."
X WINDS CHRISTMAS CAMP
How long ago was Christmas?! Well, Rhythm X Winds was already putting the work in at that point.
BROKEN CITY SHENANIGANS
Don't we all love the comedy that comes from bass lines? Well, Broken City's is no different. While it may make us laugh hysterically, you have to respect its abilities.
BEATS BY BELLBROOK
Watch out for Bellbrook's highly entertaining show that features the use of pitched tubes by the group. Here's a little taste from its performance at the Dayton Regional.
MONARCH'S ONE AND ONLY RONALDO GOMEZ
It takes a different kind of human being to put the time and work necessary to be a part of an Independent World Class drumline. It takes an entirely different kind to be the section leader. While Ronald Gomez is absolutely killing it when it comes time to drum, he's also doing a great job of making sure everyone on Monarch enjoys coming to rehearsal.
VISITORS FROM ANOTHER PLANET
We got an up-close and personal look at Old Bridge's show at the East Power Regional. Can't wait to see what it may have in store in Dayton come Thursday.
I'M GONNA NEED YOU TO HOLD THIS
Come on, tenors. You have your own stands for things like this! But the cymbals from Bakersfield College hold these drums like masters in all sorts of yoga-like poses during their show.
MCM'S UNNERVING BEGINNING
The defending PIW world champions will look to repeat again in 2018, and with an opening statement like this, it's easy to see them being in contention for another championship.
