Independent A Takes Center Stage At Mid-Atlantic Power Regional In SC
The Independent A ensembles headed to Rock Hill, SC, for the 2018 WGI Guard Mid-Atlantic Power Regional are about to set the place on fire!
The 2018 WGI Mid-Atlantic Power Regional will draw one of the largest turnouts we'll see this season for the color guard division's Independent A Class. Next weekend's two-day show in Rock Hill, South Carolina, will also be the host of eight color guards that made the 2017 WGI Guard World Championship finals last April.
Despite there only being one Scholastic World group and three Independent World ensembles, the Mid-Atlantic Power Regional will showcase an impressive amount of depth being among its Scholastic A competitors and especially within the Independent A roster.
Here's your must-watch lineup for Saturday, March 17's preliminary competition!
4:43 PM ET - Smithfield-Selma Independent (Smithfield, North Carolina)
Smithfield-Selma Independent is a group from Smithfield, NC, that developed from the local high school color guard of the same name. Smithfield-Selma performed at the WGI Richmond Regional on March 3, where the group earned second place in Independent A Class behind WGI World Championships finalist JMU Nuance Winterguard. Smithfield-Selma scored a 79.70 and will look to push past the big eight-zero en route to Dayton, Ohio, for the 2018 WGI Guard World Championships!
5:07 PM ET - JMU Nuance Winterguard (Harrisonburg, Virginia)
Perhaps the group we're looking forward to the most from the Independent A group is JMU Nuance Winterguard. In its most recent WGI Regional, the group scored an impressive 82.310 with their show "The Winds of Change" in Richmond, Virginia, on March 3.
Closely behind was Smithfield-Selma with a 79.70 at the same regional, so it'll be interesting to see where the two groups' scores fall in Rock Hill. The ensemble also topped its brand-new sister-group, JMU Nuance Gold, as well as Carolina Visual Productions and Revolutionary Winterguard — all of which will be in attendance at the Power Regional.
5:15 PM ET - Georga State University Winterguard (Atlanta, Georgia)
Wrapping up the Independent A groups is Georgia State University Winterguard, a group that finished its 2017 season at WGI World Championships Finals in 11th place. This group will have high expectations and must come out strong, but it is definitely set up for success with that last time slot.
Get an early look at this group before it makes its way to Dayton for another run at the WGI World Championships!
