DCI Southeastern Championship: 3 Major Story Lines To Follow
Follow the major story lines headed into the DCI Southeastern Championships in Atlanta on Saturday, July 29th, exclusively on FloMarching.
It has been a week since last Saturday's DCI Southwestern Championship and now it's time for most of the World Class corps to gather again at the DCI Southeastern Championships. After a free day on Sunday, corps got back on the road and back to competitions this week. Here's our top story lines to watch for in Georgia on Saturday, 7/29.
Changes Are Coming!
Changes are nothing new and by this point in the season you have already seen some major changes to the shows. Last week, Mandarins added the massive tarps with an ink blot while Boston unveiled the smoke and flames prop.
Well we are hearing that Bluecoats have rewritten a large portion of drill in their show. Not certain what it actually looks like just yet but the world will get it's first glimpse on Saturday. Will those changes push them past Crown?
Well, Carolina Crown has been busy making changes of their own. Visual Caption Head Ron Hardin posted this picture on Facebook on Wednesday with the caption, "Ch ch ch ch changes!!!!" Be sure you're watching closely on Saturday to see if you can pick up the new drill.
The Cadets were also posting about possible changes in their show and in their uniforms. They recently changed the printed graphics on their props as well as started flipping-over the panels on those props to reveal a new image. Executive Director George Hopkins also posted on Facebook about the need to find volunteers with skills in sewing.
Record Scoring Pace
The scores this season have been through the roof! Just look at the winning caption scores for the San Antonio Regional from 2016 compared to 2017.
Will this scoring pace keep up or will we see scores start to plateau? Here's some numbers to keep in mind for this weekend. At the 2016 DCI Southeastern Championships, the Bluecoats won the overall show with a 91.713 followed by the Blue Devils with a 91.488, and Crown in third with a 90.875. Here are the remaining high scores for each caption.
Wild Week In Guards
Last week we saw a wild week within the color guard caption. On Friday at the Tour of Champions - Texas show in Houston, Santa Clara Vanguard won the night. The very next night inside the Alamodome, The Cavaliers took home the win in the guard caption. Will we see such wild movement again within the color guard caption?
* = Corps that didn't perform at Tour of Champions - Texas
