Last night's three shows brought some exciting new twists to the 2017 DCI Tour across the country. Santa Clara Vanguard met with the Bluecoats and Phantom Regiment in Rockford, Illinois while The Cavaliers, The Cadets, and Carolina Crown duked it out late last night in South Carolina before they made their long trip down to Orlando, FL. Blue Devils and Blue Knights made their way up the West Coast into Oregon as well as Oregon Crusaders and Seattle Cascades coming out for the first time this season.
With the big DCI Minnesota show happening in the Midwest tonight, July 8th, the Show of Shows in Illinois serves as a precursor to the excitement that will be brought by the 16 corps meeting in Minneapolis. Friday night, Bluecoats and Santa Clara Vanguard met for the first time this season, revealing interesting results for the first West Coast/East Coast meet-up. Vanguard was only .7 behind the reigning champions, and also took won both Visual and Music captions for the night with only a margin of .05 points. Bluecoats' General Effect powerhouse of a show has kept them with a steady lead over the corps from Northern California. Music City debuted their show, "Tribe," and Legends Drum and Bugle Corps had their second show of the season, with their third being in Minnesota tonight.
Up in Oregon, Blue Devils were just shy of breaking 80, receiving a 79.95, keeping them right on track with last season's score progression - which happened on July 9th, 2016. Oregon Crusaders started off their season with a 63.4 with Cascades right on their tail with a 62.4. This is a big improvement for Cascades from last season around the same time; on July 7th, 2016 the corps scored a 57.4, putting them 5 points ahead already.
You will NOT want to miss tonight's lineup, streamed LIVE only on FloMarching! Will Santa Clara Vanguard tighten the gap to Bluecoats, putting them on track for their best season in recent years? Madison Scouts and Blue Stars have been running a close race, it seems Scout's new uniforms are helping propel the corps into territory they're a little more familiar with, who will come out on top?
