In anticipation of wet weather at the DCI Central Indiana show, numerous corps have decided to switch to their alternative uniforms for their performance. While rain is not uncommon for corps to encounter, the recent trend of new uniforms have spawned the age of alternative uniforms.
These lighter weight, weather-resistant uniforms were developed based on modern swimsuits used by competitive swimmers. It will allow corps to still perform in wet weather without the need to dry the uniforms prior to traveling to their next show. This will greatly reduce the need of air fresheners inside the buses and greatly reduce the amount of money spent on cleaning the uniforms.
After a rain show, members will simply hang them over the A/C vents by the windows of their buses. Manufacturers of the alternative unis have strongly recommended wringing out as much water as possible prior to hanging them to dry. Damage could occur to the alternative uniforms due to the A/C vents freezing the liquid left in the uniforms.
ALTERNATIVE UNIFORM IN ACTION
Here's a quick peak at one of the corps breaking in their alternative uniforms during visual warm-up.
Several years ago, one of the top corps in DCI began experimenting with such uniforms when a rehearsal was rained out. Here's a video leaked by one of its staff members. This may have been its inspiration for a show a couple of years later.
