Music for Al has taken up the charge to provide the best leadership, marching, and musical training available via its Music For All Summer Symposium, presented by Yamaha.
From middle school students to high school teachers, Music for All, the nonprofit educational organization that owns and operates Bands of America and Orchestra America, has taken up the charge to provide the best leadership, marching, and musical training available via its Music For All Summer Symposium, presented by Yamaha.
This year's symposium, which was hosted by Ball State in Muncie, IN, kicked off last weekend with a leadership camp for students that featured two days of clinics and seminars organized by Leadership Weekend Coordinator Fran Kick. After the leadership program wrapped up, Monday marked the start of weekday camp -- which was split into nine different "tracks" for the students.
The different tracks allowed the students to train one specific facet of their musical abilities, including color guard, concert band, drum major training, and even overall marching band training.
The marching band and drum major "track" required the students to rehearse each day, honing their technique spanning from a visual warm-up block to performing music with the fan favorite and 2013 DCI world champion Carolina Crown. The winds participants have learned a piece of music and some drill that they will perform with the corps after Friday night's DCI Central Indiana show.
Before the show begins, you can catch the Summer Symposium marching band camp students playing the "Star-Spangled Banner," conducted by arranger and composer Richard Saucedo. Once the show is complete, the marching camp's percussion students will also be performing two pieces written by The Cadets percussion caption head Tom Aungst, entitled "Boom, Boom" and "Slammin'."
Do not miss the chance to watch these incredible students and musicians LIVE on FloMarching at DCI Central Indiana on Friday night. The pre-show and encore will both steam live once Carolina Crown finishes their performance of their eclectic and dynamic 2017 show, "It is..."
