Take a closer look at some of the band that will be performing at the Western Band Association Championships, Nov. 19-20.
California is set to blow up this weekend as the Western Band Association takes center stage of the marching arts world. It's time for the Western Band Association Championships, LIVE from Merced, California, and Clovis, CA, this weekend. Bands from all over the West Coast will be competing for their class championships on Saturday, Nov. 19, and then the title of WBA grand champion on Sunday, Nov. 20. Here's a little preview of the action at the Class 1A-2A-3A Championships at Merced.
Santa Teresa H.S. - 12:18 PM
The Santa Teresa High School marching band and color guard placed first at the 2015 Fleet Week Band Challenge and won the AAAA Division WBA Gilroy Garlic Classic. The band also finished in 13th place at the 2015 Western Band Association Championships AAAA Preliminary Competition. The bands and color guard from Santa Teresa have received superior ratings at numerous concert band and jazz festivals throughout California.
Live Oak H.S. - 1:17 PM
The Live Oak Emerald Regime is honored to be performing at the second Northern California BOA Regional. The Live Oak Emerald Regime was the first band to win the BOA Grand National Championship in 1976 and is still the only California band to hold that distinction.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Independence High School 76th Cavalry marching band and color guard. Over the years, the band has earned numerous awards and accolades. It has participated in the Tournament of Roses, Orange Bowl, Macy's Thanksgiving, Fiesta Bowl, and London New Year's Day Parades in addition to competing annually in the Western Band Association circuit.
The King's Academy H.S. - 5:45 PM
The King's Academy won the Class A division at the 2016 BOA San Jose Regional and was the 2015 Western Band Association Class A champion.
The Beyer High School marching band has traveled to 21 states in the U.S., Canada, England, Wales, and Ireland and has garnered thousands of trophies and awards in its 40 years of existence. These include being named the 1997 Winter Guard International Friendship Cup Seattle Regional champion and the 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 Western Band Association AAA champions. In 2005-07 Beyer was also named the WBA Class A/AA/AAA Combined Grand champion. In 1993, the Beyer band was named the No. 1 high school marching band program in the U.S. by earning the coveted Sudler Shield awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.
