The Rock is Ready to Kick Some Brass in 'Clash of the Corps' Debut
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has created a new documentary series to delve into the high-octane competition of Drum Corps International.
Do you smell what "The Rock" has cooked up for the marching community?
Actor turned executive producer Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has created a new documentary series that delves into the high-octane competition of Drum Corps International, known for its incredible shows, performances, stories, people, and music. Tune in to watch Fuse's eight-part series called "Clash of the Corps," debuting Wednesday, October 5 at 11PM EST/10PM CST.
Here's some of the reasons why we'll be tuned in to watch:
1. It's 'THE ROCK!'
The marching arts community has long craved attention by the mainstream media to not only give credibility to the sport but also recognition. While credibility comes from within the community, nationwide recognition on a big stage sometimes needs a boost. And a celebrity athlete of Johnson's status is easily the biggest name to give drum corps and the marching arts community some love.
2. Is it AUTHENTIC?
Every time corps members try to explain to the world what drum corps is most of the world reacts by saying, "Oh, it's like the movie 'Drumline.'" Will "Clash of the Corps" break that link? While the style of marching that is displayed in the "Drumline" movies is certainly a style of its own and deserves the utmost respect. Performers from the drum corps world will be the first to tell anyone it is not the same thing. So will "Clash of the Corps" be authentic to the marching arts? Or will it turn it into a theatrical circus made for reality TV?
3. Will it show the performers as the stereotypical "band nerd?"
Corps members are some of the most intelligent, thoughtful, analytical, talented, competitive, and ridiculously hardworking folks on the planet. The members of drum corps, and all of the marching arts for that matter, are incredible individuals who deserve the recognition as supreme athletes with amazing intelligence. Come try to keep up with a corps member during a rehearsal or show and see if you will refer to them as anything but a genius athlete.
4. Will it be scripted or staged?
Anyone who has marched will quickly be able to tell if it is scripted or staged. It should not need it since life on tour provides plenty of drama and content for a show. But it will be pretty easy to look at the show a say, "Yeah, that's fake," or "Yep, that's true."
