Who Is Jessie Price?
Jessie's love of color guard began in high school during her sophomore year, outside of Nashville, Tennessee.
She immediately was drawn to its similarities with dance, cheer, and gymnastics, making it a relatively easy addition to her schedule. April, Jessie's older sister, had been trying for years to convince her to join.
After high school, Jessie moved on to pursue Dance in college at Western Kentucky University and took her first shot at competing with an Independent winter guard—which she continued for three seasons.
She still wanted to learn more from color guard, though—and not only learn, but teach and share her creations with the community through performance.
In 2018, Jessie and best friend Ben Quesinberry felt like they were ready to pursue their dream of launching an Independent winter guard in Western Kentucky that could be a place that anyone could call home. Not only could it be a place to refine technique and perform with a group of likeminded people, it could be a place where they all had one thing in common—a love for color guard.
It also filled a need in the area for performers that couldn't make the regular six hour road trips required to compete in other independent guards.
This was the beginning of The Magnolia Project.
She received her first diagnosis just months later.
Within four years, The Magnolia Project became a WGI World Championship Silver Medalist in Independent A class.
But, it's never really been about the accolades for Jessie.
From her perspective, as long as the performers feel accomplished and proud of their progress—that's what it's all about.
She received a second, terminal diagnosis in the early stages of the 2025 season and reached out to WGI and FloMarching to help get her story out. A special video feature on Jessie Price, The Magnolia Project, and her story will be released for free across FloMarching and FloSports platforms.
