Drum corps fans rejoice: Carolina Gold may be only a couple of years away from breaking back into competitive drum corps after multiple years of being inactive.

Earlier this week, the Raleigh-based ensemble took to social media to distill the following information to its fans and former members:

Stand-out messaging from the press release includes a couple of key points:

  • Carolina Gold have elected a new board of directors
  • Electing a new board of directors is the first step of the ensemble's effort "to return the corps to competitive status," and bring local drum corps back to the Carolinas
  • Carolina Gold plans on celebrating its 25th anniversary with a parade corps in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Raleigh
  • The ensemble plans to have additional performance opportunities for members through DCI SoundSport while focusing on how to "smartly build for the future before returning to the field as a competitive drum corps"

This announcement is even more exciting considering the recent trend of drum corps taking a year (or multiple years) off from competition due to high costs, membership retention, and many other factors.

While the future may not be fully paved, we're hopeful and excited to welcome Carolina Gold back into the fold when it's ready.

Established in the fall of 2000, the primary function of Carolina Gold is to provide a drum and bugle corps for the state of North Carolina. Gold strives to provide its performing members with a stimulating and rewarding instructional, competitive, and social experience. In its most recent competitive season (2019), Carolina Gold finished first in the A Class (DCI All-Age) with its show 'Come One, Come All!' The corps had plans to move up to DCI Open Class in the 2020 season before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled all competition for the year.
