The Managerie Opens in Chattanooga

A host of Southern and Midwest states made their way to Chattanooga for the 2024 BOA Chattanooga Regional, where fans were treated to over twenty performances from programs representing seven different states. While the affair was full of excitement, there was one clear front-runner in both Prelims and Finals: Dobyns-Bennett HS. The Tennessee-based program exploded onto the scene with their 2024 program titled, 'Menagerie,' where its debut was well-received by judges and fans alike, earning them a spot atop the table with a gap of over two points.

Dobyns-Bennett HS earned an 82.150, followed by second-place North HS, representing Indiana, which walked away with a 79.900. Rounding out the top three was Lakota East HS from Ohio, which earned a 77.050 after Finals competition. Dobyns-Bennett HS also managed victories in the Outstanding Visual Performance and Outstanding General Effect captions. And in a stunning turn of events, fourth-place Lambert HS ended up sharing the Outstanding Music Performance caption award with Dobyns-Bennett HS

A Finals Flip in Webster

One of the more dramatic competitions of the weekend was the 2024 BOA South Houston Regional, where fans were treated to a complete mix-up of rankings from Prelims to Finals competition. When zooming in on the Prelims results, the top-three went as follows: Ronald Reagan HS in first, Bridgeland HS in second, and Pearland HS in third. While we saw the same competitors in the top three in Finals competition, Pearland HS was the talk of the town after a surge in scores propelled them to a first-place finish in Finals.

Pearland HS also took home the caption awards for Outstanding Visual Performance and Outstanding General Effect. Ronald Reagan HS ended up securing the victory in the Outstanding Music Performance caption.

An Electric Finish in Memphis

One program to keep an eye on after making Semifinals at BOA Grand Nationals for the first time in program history last year and has started off the 2024 season with an electric start is Bartlett HS. The Southwest Tennessee-based program secured a massive first-place finish in Memphis, eclipsing all of the other competitors with a two-point gap between itself and second-place Arlington HS. Hernando HS rounded out the top three.

Bartlett HS also took home two of the three caption awards, locking down the Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect awards. Arlington HS walked away with the caption award for Outstanding Visual Performance.

The First Circle Claims First Place

Switching gears to the other side of the country, the 2024 BOA Arizona Regional took place in Flagstaff, with nearly twenty competitors representing four different states going head-to-head. Similar to the BOA South Houston Regional, there was also a bit of a flip from Prelims to Finals in Flagstaff. When looking at Prelims, here's how the top six looked:

  1. Edmond Santa Fe HS
  2. Mountain Ridge HS
  3. Foothills HS
  4. Catalina Foothills HS
  5. Mission Hills HS
  6. Desert Vista HS

While the first-place slot was never really in question based on the over two-point gap between Edmond Santa Fe HS and its next closest competitor,  the rest of the top six saw massive placement switching. Here's how the order looked after Finals:
