Over the last week of DCI 2024 competition, the headlines lately have been ablaze with some interesting (and shocking) facts. Here are six need-to-know facts heading into the next week of DCI competition:

1. Boston Crusaders outscored the Blue Devils for the first time ever

The Masters of Summer Music Games in Murfreesboro on July 26th marked the first time in DCI history that the Boston Crusaders outscored the Blue Devils. 

2. Bluecoats tallied the new record-high DCI Southwestern Championship score

With a score of 93.025, the Bluecoats cemented themselves as the ensemble that now holds the new record-high DCI Southwestern Championship score. The title was previously held by the Blue Devils, which scored a 92.600 in San Antonio during the 2023 DCI season.

3. Phantom Regiment topped Carolina Crown for the first time in over a decade

Some more history was made at The Masters of the Summer Music Games, with Phantom Regiment outscoring Carolina Crown for the first time since June 16, 2012. Prior to that was at DCI World Championship Finals in 2008, the year Phantom Regiment won gold with their program, 'Spartacus.'

4. Madison Scouts are on pace to achieve their highest score since 2017

Madison Scouts are just one of a handful of corps that are competing for a coveted slot performing on Saturday at DCI World Championship Finals. It's worth noting that no matter where the corps finishes its 2024 DCI season, there's reason to celebrate, as the corps is on pace to achieve one of its highest scores in recent years. Just days ago at DCI Birmingham on July 26th, the Scouts earned a 82.325, which is within spitting distance of their Semifinals scores from the 2018-2023 seasons. The Scouts scored a 85.25 in 2017 with their program titled, 'The Last Man Standing.' We'll have to wait and see what happens over the last stretch of the DCI season!

5. Boston Crusaders are on the hunt for their first-ever Fred Sanford Percussion Caption Award

Throughout the 2024 DCI season, the Boston Crusaders have put up impressive Percussion subcaption scores, most recently securing a first-place finish at the 2024 DCI Southeastern Championship with a score of 19.100 in the subcaption. The margin of victory in the Percussion subcaption between Boston and the next-highest ensemble was 0.25 points. 

6. Troopers beat The Cavaliers for the first time since 1974

History continues to be made! At NightBEAT on July 28th, the Troopers topped The Cavaliers for the first time since 1974. The last time this happened was at DCI Ithaca in 1974, where Troop scored an 85.65 and the Cavaliers scored a 79.55.
