The University of Southern California's Spirit of Troy marching band went viral two weeks ago when they debuted a halftime performance that leaned heavily into nostalgia for the early 2000s. When the halftime performance theme was teased on social media, fans exploded with enthusiasm for what was likely going to be a show filled with great throwbacks... and likely a few memes.

The Spirit of Troy didn't disappoint, and fans were treated to an all-star cast of early 2000s cartoon theme songs, including:

• Avatar the Last Airbender
• Jimmy Neutron
• Big Time Rush
• Fairly Odd Parents
• Spongebob Squarepants

The show was a blast from the past, pairing some of Nickelodeon's most beloved cartoons together to create a halftime performance that was both fun and entertaining for audiences. 

Ending things on a high note, the crowd-pleaser of a show wrapped up with one of the best memes we've seen so far this college marching band season. When the Spirit of Troy ended their segment of the Spongebob Squarepants theme song, they immediately followed it up by playing 'Sweet Victory' - a tune that was from the famous 'Band Geeks' episode of Spongebob that gave us such memes as "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" and a whole two-minute musical routine that lives rent-free in my head. While this show may not be for everyone (especially those who didn't grow up with these TV shows and cartoons), it goes to show that sometimes the best way to get people talking about your college band is to make goofy content that appeals to a die-hard segment of fans. We saw it happen with the University of Michigan's 'It Was Never A Phase' halftime show, too, when it seemed like everyone on social media was sharing their show announcement graphic.

All this to say: Keep entertaining the masses, USC, and congrats on the sweet victory of an awesome halftime show.

About the USC Spirit of Troy Marching Band: Known as the Spirit of Troy, the Trojan Marching Band has performed at the Academy Awards, the Hollywood Bowl, the Rose Parade, and in numerous film and television productions. In 1979, the band recorded the title track for the album Tusk with the rock group Fleetwood Mac, which resulted in a platinum album for that song; no other collegiate marching band has ever been so honored.
